Information

  • For youth ages 8 to 14.
  • Writing activities and games designed to stimulate imagination and teach effective writing strategies.
  • Morning and full day sessions available.
  • Participants are grouped with others in the same age and experience range.
  • Daily schedule includes writing instruction, games, snack, and sharing.
  • Campers design and publish their own hardcopy books.
  • Parents and friends are invited to listen to participants share their writing on the last day of camp at a "literary salon".
  • Scholarships are available for low income campers.

2019 Sessions

Session One
July 8-12 Pet Parade (full day 9 am - 3 pm)
Create a story about your favorite pet or other animal. Try different kinds of poems from free verse to odes. Meet dogs from a local shelter and read your finished book to them. Supervised lunch hour included—campers bring their own lunch.

Session Two
July 15-19 Around the World in 80 Days (morning 9 am - noon)
Become an armchair traveler to exotic locations following the path of Jules Verne’s heroes Phileas Fogg and Passepartout. Create your own adventure episode or write a travel story of your own choosing. Experiment with poetic forms including list poems and limericks.

Session Three
July 22-26 Pet Parade (morning 9 am - noon)
