Summer Camps

Information

  • For youth ages 8 to 14.
  • Writing activities and games designed to stimulate imagination and teach effective writing strategies.
  • Morning, afternoon and full day sessions available.
  • Participants are grouped with others in the same age and experience range.
  • Daily schedule includes writing instruction, games, snack, and sharing.
  • Campers design and publish their own books.
  • Parents and friends are invited to listen to participants share their writing on the last day of camp.
  • Scholarships are available for qualified campers.

2016 Sessions

Session One
June 13-17 Pet Parade (full day 9 am - 3 pm)
Create a story about your favorite pet or other animal. Try different kinds of poems from free verse to limericks. Meet pets from a local shelter and read your finished book to them. Supervised lunch hour included — campers bring their own lunch.
Camp location: Roosevelt School, 2223 Vera Ave., Redwood City

Session Two
June 20-24 Time Travel (morning 9 am - noon)
Take a journey to the past or the future and write a story about your adventure. Learn poem formats including list poems and cinquain. Share your finished book with your parents and friends on the last day of camp.
Camp location: Unitarian Universalist Church, 2124 Brewster Ave., Redwood City

Session Three
June 27 - July 1 Pet Parade (full day 9 am - 3 pm)
